National Optical Distribution has always existed to coordinate an inherently complex process — the movement of optical products across a national network — in a way that makes it as simple and straightforward as possible for everyone involved.

It’s a responsibility that sits across a structured system of people, routes and partnerships that have been built over time. In 2025, that structure evolved further, with the next generation stepping into the senior leadership roles across the business.

This transition was deliberately and carefully planned to ensure clear continuity. As a business, we operate at scale, serving laboratories, manufacturers and practices across Australia through a coordinated national network. Continuity, operational stability and sector knowledge are essential, and this leadership evolution has been structured with those priorities firmly in mind.

Last year, Tarkis Rann joined the business alongside Sally Cranley and Gavin Cranley. They are the next generations, respectively, of the Materazzo and Mueller families who have shaped NOD’s growth and brand so successfully to date. Each brings with them a distinct skillset, alongside renewed energy, fresh expertise, and a stronger focus on client centricity. Combined with a comprehensive understanding of the practical realities of national logistics, this creates an exciting and dynamic senior leadership to take the impressive achievements of the families so far to the next stage of growth, while remaining closely aligned with the evolving needs of National Optical Distribution’s clients.

Sebastian Gambera, Chief Operating Officer, continues to play a central role in this structure. With extensive experience in freight and logistics, Sebastian provides the operational oversight and market insight that supports both continuity and informed development. His role through this transition has been to anchor the business in the practical expertise that underpins reliable national distribution.

Gina Materazzo and Alex Mueller remain actively involved as Joint Chairpersons, providing governance oversight and long-term strategic guidance. Their continued presence ensures that the principles of accountability, sector specialisation and dependable service, upon which NOD was built, remain embedded at board level.

Some aspects of National Optical Distribution may look a little different moving forward. Alongside a refreshed brand, we are investing in updated technology and reinforcing our focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability, ensuring our services continue to evolve in line with our clients’ changing needs. As regulatory environments shift and client expectations develop, national logistics providers must respond with both discipline and foresight. This leadership transition supports that modern move forward.

For clients, the fundamentals remain consistent. NOD continues to provide coordinated national optical logistics, supported by structured routing and aligned state operations across the network. Our commitment to reliable service and free returns remains unchanged. These foundations have enabled us to become Australia’s leading optical logistics provider and will continue to underpin everything we do.

National Optical Distribution was created through collaboration. It brought together regional expertise to form a coordinated, national service for a specialist industry. That structure and expertise remain a core strength, as the next generation steps forward to ensure it continues to operate effectively in a complex logistics landscape.

This continuation brings a renewed and energetic operational focus, structured governance, and a clear commitment to delivering reliable, specialist national distribution for years to come, and we’re looking forward to what the future brings.
